Their fans have been looking forward to this release for some time and the band does not disappoint. Pistol is a bit softer and more melodic than one would expect, considering it's title and the yell that kicks off the track. It is, however, by no stretch of the imagination a soft song; it's definitely rock and definitely It fits in well with their more recent releases and the maturing sound of the band.
Miyawaki 's ability to sing in English continues to be imperfect but he has made vast improvements and the couple of English lines in the chorus at least make sense and work well as opposed to some of his earlier attempts; Sheeps comes to mind. His voice is strong in Pistol but not overpoweringly so, letting the listener get a taste of the rest of 's talent.
Sakai and Suga 's guitar work is dead on in this song. The solo moments were well-done but sounded familiar and were rather forgettable; however, the guitar in the chorus is a real treat to listen to. Enya 's bass lines shine through sporadically and are definitely worth straining your ears for.
From roughly in particular, you can hear him beneath Miyawaki 's voice very well. Kawauchi 's drumming is also extremely solid and impressive in Pistol , even to someone who may not often take note of drummers.
The synthesizer at the beginning of want, want, want came as something of a surprise as 'synthesizer' and ' ' are not often associated together. The bass absolutely shines in this song, gently steering it along with the guitars layering over it sweetly and, thankfully, not overpoweringly.
Miyawaki 's vocals and ability as a lyricist are not to be ignored in want, want, want. Even if the listener does not understand Japanese, the emotion he pours into each line is crystal clear. This track definitely promises to be a treat, and possible tear-jerker, when performed live. Overall, while Pistol certainly is a good song and well-executed, it is not the most memorable track of the single despite the guitar and drum work.
