Once you are adequately prepared, you can leave the PokeCenter and be greeted by your mother and Rival's sister. After talking to you for a bit, your mother will give you the Running Shoes, whichh can be used to run faster by pressing B, and Rival's sister will give you a Town Map, which allows you to view a map of the entire new Unova region.
The two of them wish you luck on your journey, and Bianca tells you to meet her out on Route Head north through the gate, and the lady at the counter will stop you to give you a free Potion. Head out to Route After getting to Route 19, Bianca will demonstrate to you how to capture a Pokemon, using her Lillipup to catch a Purrloin, and then will set you free to explore Route Route 19 has two Pokemon available to you: Patrat, a Normal-type chipmunk, and Purrloin, a Dark-type cat.
While neither of them is particularly good, they are the only things available to you right now, so it's probably worth grabbing one or both of them to start filling up team slots.
Also worth grabbing is the item ball near the hoppable ledge, which contains another Potion. Training your Pokemon here would be a good idea, and you can run back to the PokeCenter in Aspertia if you need to heal up. If you head further east along the road, you'll happen to run into none other than the Champion during Black and White, Alder! Turns out that he lives in the neighboring town. After introducing himself and examining you, he declares that your Pokemon are strong, and invites you to join him in town, then heads out.
Once you've done everything on Route 19 that you want to do, go ahead and follow him. Floccesy Town is very small, with only a PokeCenter and a couple small houses, so there isn't much to do here. Alder will greet you at the entrance to the town, then head off toward his house. You can follow him, but first go to the house directly right of the PokeCenter. Inside there is an old man who will give you a Potion for talking to him. Then head north, where Alder will direct you to Route Since there's nothing else to do in Floccesy Town yet, head out here next.
Route 20 is important because it has the first regular trainer battles of the game, and contains several new Pokemon for you to catch. Right before you cross the bridge, you'll face a Youngster who has a single Patrat. Following the path will bring you into the gaze of a Lass with a Purrloin, and after her is the first grassy patch of the route, as well as an item ball containing a Parlyz Heal, which will cure a single Pokemon of the Paralysis status condition.
Once you battle the Youngster here with another Patrat, you can turn your attention to the new Pokemon available. In addition to the already seen Patrat and Purrloin, the grass here contains several new Pokemon for your consideration.
Sunkern is also a Grass-type, but it unfortunately has very poor stats until it evolves, which can only be triggered by using a Sun Stone on it.
While walking around, it is also possible that you will see a patch of grass begin to shake. This grass can contain either Audino, a Normal type Pokemon that has good healing properties, or rarely a Dunsparce, which is a Normal type snake with the Serene Grace ability. While all of these Pokemon are decent for in-game purposes, there are also better options for each type available.
However, it is ultimately up to personal preference, so feel free to take whatever catches your interest. Once you're done in this patch of grass, head up in the break between the trees and examine the rock on the left, where you'll find a hidden PokeBall. The Hiker here won't let you take the path east until later, so the only place to go is west. Cross the bridge, and since you can't get to the item ball in the pit yet, head north to reach Floccesy Ranch. Directly to the left of the entrance to the Floccesy Ranch is a patch of grass with several new Pokemon, so head here first.
Lillipup is a Normal-type puppy that has excellent attacking stats, as well as a great ability in Intimidate once it evolves. Azurill is a Normal type as well, but evolves into the Water-type Marill and Azumarill.
While the Azurill family has mediocre stats at first glance, they also have the possibility of having the Huge Power ability, which doubles their attack stat, so if you choose to use the family, make sure you get one with this ability. Mareep is the first Electric type that you can acquire; with the ability to learn status moves like Thunder Wave and Light Screen, the sheep is a very useful choice for teams. Psyduck is a Water type duck that has the ability to learn several Psychic type moves, setting it apart from other Waters.
Finally, Riolu is a Fighting-type with an excellent movepool for both physical and special moves, Riolu also gains the Steel typing upon its evolution into Lucario, which occurs when it has peak happiness during the day. All the Pokemon found in the grass at Floccesy Ranch are excellent for ingame usage, so be sure to pick up a couple of them.
More than likely your opponent will use their passive move at least once, which will let you get ahead and allow you to defeat them before they defeat you. Once the battle is over, you'll again begin talking to your rival.
Eventually he'll leave and Bianca will take you to the Pokemon Center. Once she's done, she'll give you ten Poke Ball s! She'll then leave. Once you're done, go back outside. You'll once again be stopped ambushed? Your mother and your rival's little sister will then approach you. Your mother will give you the Running Shoes and your rival's sister will give you the Town Map , as well as a second copy of it, which you'll be quested to give you rival.
Soon after, Bianca will head out into the first route. You can now explore the area outside of Aspertia City! Unfortunately the Trainers' School is still blocked, so we can't take on the first Gym Leader just yet, but we'll be back later.
Go north up the street to the right of the Pokemon Center until you reach the gate at the end. Enter it. Once inside, move forward and you'll be stopped by the person in charge of the gate. She'll give you a Potion. Check out the Electronic Bulletin Board if you want, but otherwise exit the gate at the north end.
Once you've obtained Surf , you can return here to do a little more exploring. When you Fly here, you'll wind up back in front of your house. You'll see some water to your east. Move over and head onto it by using Surf. Head east across the water to the other side. You'll find TM53 - Energy Ball there. Heck yes! Surf back to the city itself. That's really it! If you're going back through all of the previous areas that required Surf back before you had it, the next area to explore is Route 19 - Surf Required!
Simply head through the gate north of Aspertia City to reach Route You're now in Route 19, an extremely short area. Move forward and talk to Bianca. She gives you the obligatory explanation of how tall grass works and a run-through of how to catch a Pokemon. Once done, she'll simply leave and allow you to get on with things. Follow the path provided, moving through the first patch of grass and halfway around the second patch.
Move through the rest of it, ignoring the girl wandering around in it. You'll now be south of an area that contains a Youngster and an item amidst a bunch of grass. Go up and collect the item, which turns out to be a Potion. You can talk to the Youngster and find out how to jump over ledges by answering 'No' the second option to his question. In Route 19 there are only two Pokemon that can be caught, Patrat and Purrloin, both of which you should catch. You may then want to train up your new Pokemon up to a decent level.
Staying around the end of the route whilst training and catching Pokemon is the most efficient way to do it, as the Pokemon Center in the next town is very close, so you can easily heal your Pokemon there.
Other than that, the only thing left to do is continue on to Floccesy Town. Just before you reach it, a man with fiery hair will stop you and commence a conversation. He'll ask you to follow him to train. Once done, continue and enter the town.
About halfway through this short route is some water it's so short that you're not going to miss it. Use Surf and head out onto it. Head north-west across the water to a little alcove to find a Water Stone. Head back onto the water and head east. Continue to the very end where there are some steps. Move onto the land and up the steps. Head north, then west along the edge of the cliff to the item at the end.
Pick up the Nest Ball , then backtrack to the stairs. This time head south. Near the end is a hidden Expert Belt. If you're going back through all of the previous areas that required Surf back before you had it, the next area to explore is Route 20 - Surf Required!
Fly to Virbank City and head west out of the city to get there! First thing's first, enter the Pokemon Center and heal your Pokemon. Once you're done, go back outside and continue right. You'll once again talk to Alder before he walks off to your north, waiting for you to follow. Let's explore a little first. Enter the first house to the right of the Pokemon Center and talk to the bald man inside. He'll give you a Potion. Exit and move north up the street.
There's not really anything else of note to do here, so continue north until you reach Alder once more. You'll talk for a third time. Once you have, he'll tell you to find your rival and give him the second Town Map that you have. He'll stand guard over his house. He won't let you enter until you've completed Route 20 , which includes Floccesy Ranch , so instead follow the path past it and enter Route There are a number of trainer battles here. The Lass facing left before the bridge isn't up for one, but the Youngster nearby is.
Move up to him and commence the battle. Once you're done, continue on past the bridge until you reach a Lass facing west. She's looking for a battle. Once she's defeated, follow the path north into the grass. Collect the Parlyz Heal here and battle the next Youngster. If you want to avoid the battle, you can move past him on his left side. It's recommended that you partake in the battle for experience however. It's quite easy so there shouldn't be any problems. Once you've defeated Makoto, continue north until you're out of the grass.
There is a Hiker to your right. He isn't willing to fight at the moment, but he's refusing to let you past him. Continue left instead. Before the bridge, you'll see a short path leading north with a few rocks blocking the way early on. The left of the bottom two rocks contains a Poke Ball. If you interact with it by pressing 'A' when you face it, you'll collect the Poke Ball. Once you have it, continue west over the bridge. If it's currently Autumn, there will be leaves covering the ditch to your south, allowing you to move across it and grab the Poke Ball.
Come back here and move across the leaves and grab the Poke Ball. Now you can head along the new path opened up by the leaves to the north-west of the patch you're in at the moment. Follow this path west, then south until you reach the end.
At the last tile before the end is a hidden Potion. Attempt to interact with the tile to receive it.
Now backtrack until you're back on the main path. From there, you can head north along the path to Floccesy Ranch. Before you leave the area, it's recommended that you catch a Sunkern, Sewaddle and Pidove if you can. This will bring your party count up to six, meaning that you will then have a full party.
Training them up to around Level 4 or 5 each would also be a good idea as you have a decently difficult Rival Battle up ahead. The wild Pokemon in Floccesy Ranch are also of a noticeably higher level, providing more incentive to train first. You're now in Floccesy Ranch. You'll notice a patch of grass to your left upon entering.
You can use this to catch yet more Pokemon. When you're ready, follow the dirt path north and west when you reach the gap in the wooden fence. Make sure you're ready for a Rival Battle when you attempt to move through the gap in the fence.
As soon as you do, Hugh appears. You'll hand him his copy of the Town Map and the battle begins! If Tepig is your opponent, place a Pokemon in first position in your party that isn't weak against it. If Snivy's your opponent, place Pidove first. If Oshawott's your opponent, place Sunkern first. If you don't have one of those Pokemon, it's recommended that you go and catch one in Route 20 , otherwise simply place something in first position that isn't weak against your opponent.
When you're actually in battle, it's all a matter of whittling away at the enemy's HP. Obviously use moves that are super effective against the enemy. Attack with one Pokemon until it faints then move onto the next one. Use lower-level Pokemon if you want to train them, or higher-level Pokemon if you simply want to get things over and done with. You'll soon win. After the battle's over, the owners of the Ranch will come up and give you a Potion.
Continue north to the second town. This is a rather small town with only a few buildings and a PokeCenter. Talk to Juniper and she'll show you some of its features and also ask you to heal your Pokemon. As you exit, something is happening that is making people gather around. You'll meet a bunch of people in gray hoods led by a man in a weird robe. These guys are known as Team Plasma and their leader is Ghetsis. He will give a little speech then the Team will leave.
The crowd will disperse leaving a guy with a black and white cap. This guy is simply known as "N". He'll want to check out your Pokemon in a battle, so get ready! N has the Dark-type cat as his only Pokemon. It only knows Scratch, Growl, and Assist. Assist is useless since it can only use moves from other Pokemon on its team and N has no other Pokemon.
This battle shouldn't be hard at all. After beating N, he'll leave. You can continue to explore the rest of town, though this place is really quite small with only a few buildings. The building up the stairs above the PokeCenter has some musicians When you are done, you can continue on to the next Route.
Right when you get past the gate, you'll get a call from your mom, who promptly rushes over and gives you the Running Shoes. Now you can hold the B button and get to places a lot faster. This Route has a couple of Poke Balls laying on the ground and when you pick them up, you can get a free item. There are also some trainers who you can battle for EXP. This is the first Route that you can find Purrloin, who you have encountered on N's team.
Though they are fast Pokemon, they are also very frail and aren't that powerful. There isn't much else to do here, so head to the next town. But before you can reach it, Bianca will show up! Bianca has added a Lillipup to her team along with her starter. The puppy's only attacking move is Tackle, though Tackle is stronger this generation and being a Normal type means it will deal more damage. Her starter is next and has learned its first elemental move.
Still, this battle is pretty simple especially if you have a Lillipup of your own. The colorful building to the right of the PokeCenter is the first Gym in Unova. However there is a man with sunglasses blocking the way. You can't enter it for now, so head to the building to the left of the PokeCenter. Inside is a classroom and at the front of the class is Cheren. Answer "Yes" to his questions and he will battle you. Cheren leads with his starter this time. His starter has an Oran Berry and will use it to restore its health once its HP drops below half.
He also has a Purrloin on his team, although it's barely any different than the one from your battle with N. Other than that there isn't much to say about this battle. After the battle, Cheren will give you 3 Oran Berries, which can be useful for your upcoming Gym battle. A boy with a blue vest in the same room will quiz you on status effects if you talk to him. The questions are easy, but just in case, the answers are Antidote and Awakening.
He'll give you a Full Heal as a reward for passing. Head back outside. There is a nice garden to the west of the city which has a bunch of flowers, hedge sculptures, and a large fountain. There are also some items to find, although most of them are hidden.
Also as you walk along the water, you may notice some strange bubbles forming on the surface. These are similar to the shaking grass patches. If you fish or Surf over these bubbles, you can encounter wild Pokemon.
But you won't get Surf or a fishing rod for a while, so ignore them for now. Up ahead is the gateway to Route 3, but the old man standing in front of it won't let you pass since you don't have a Gym Badge. Before you head back to the Gym, visit the area to the east of this city. There are a couple more trainers here, but the real attraction is the chance to grab a free Pokemon.
Talk to the person near the eastern part of this area and you'll get a new Pokemon based on the starter you chose:. Consider this your second "starter" of the game. Each of these elemental monkeys comes at Level 10 and know Scratch, Leer, Lick, and one other move that matches their type. All three monkeys have identical stats and abilities. They are pretty fast Pokemon although their attacking stats aren't that high even after they evolve.
Still you should level it up a bit before you face the first Gym. There's a lot more to this place, but you can't enter the actual warehouse yet because of a tree blocking your path. You can get to that later. For now go back to the city and you'll see Cilan, one of the Gym Leaders, standing in front of the door. Talk to him and he'll go inside, so follow him in. This gym is based off of a cafe. Once you enter, the guy with sunglasses will talk to you and give you a Fresh Water, which can be used to restore your Pokemon's health and is more effective than a Potion.
From now on, talk to this guy before each Gym battle and he'll give you a Fresh Water for free. What a nice guy! There is a very basic puzzle in this Gym that tests your knowledge of Pokemon type effectiveness. Look at the symbol on the curtains, then step on the symbol on the floor that would be super effective against it. Fire is super effective against Grass, Grass is super effective against Water, and Water is super effective against Fire. When you make the correct choice, the curtains will open and you can pass through.
When you reach the end, Cilan will introduce two other people - Chili and Cress. They each specialize in a different type, which you can tell by the color of their hair. You need to talk to the person who has the type advantage against your starter Pokemon. For example, if you chose Snivy you need to talk to Chili since he uses Fire. Before you talk to anyone, you could attach the Oran Berries you received from Cheren to your Pokemon to help you in battle.
Once you're ready, your first Unova Gym Battle will begin! All three leaders will have a Lillipup to start with. While you've fought many of these dogs before, this one has a new move called "Work Up".
This increases the user's Attack and Special Attack by 1 stage. It can be potentially deadly especially since Lillipup already has high Attack. Defeat it before it can boost its stats too much.
Once the dog faints, one of the elemental monkeys will show up depending on which starter you chose. All three monkeys have the same stats and know the same moves except for one. They also know Work Up as well, which can be bad news for you. For this battle, use your starter against the Lillipup.
It shouldn't have much of a problem if it's at least Lv. The monkey will have an advantage against your starter, so switch to your own monkey to beat it. This is the first TM you will get in the game. TMs in this generation are inifinitely reusable and Work Up is a pretty good move so teach it to whomever you want.
The Badge allows you to use the HM move Cut outside of battle. Once you go outside Fennel, the Professor's friend, will greet and bring you to her lab. HMs work the same way as TMs by teaching your Pokemon a new move, but the annoying thing is that they can't be deleted without the help of a Move Deleter.
Still they are required for accessing certain areas in the game, so make room for it. Anyways, Fennel will also show you a special machine. This machine allows you to access the Dream World. But first you need to find something called Dream Mist. Go outside and exit the city to the east. Now you can finally get rid of that tree that is blocking the door. Have your Pokemon Cut it down so you can enter the building.
Before you do, Bianca will come by. As you enter the Warehouse, you'll encounter a floating pink Pokemon called Munna and shortly after that, two Team Plasma Grunts. Once defeated, head into the grass to Masahiro's south-east. You'll notice a one-tile space in the Tall Grass. Interact with this space to find a Great Ball! Here you'll see a Lass looking out towards sea. Move up and speak to her to battle. Once the Lass has been done with, move north and take the steps to your left leading up to the platforms.
Move north then east along the platforms. You can walk on the orange pipes connecting to other platforms, just be careful not to walk off or idle or you'll find yourself back on the ground below. Walk along the pipes to the platform to your east. From there, go to the platform to your south and take the steps down to the Worker. Talk to him for a battle. After you've battle the Worker, run down the second set of stairs and collect TM46 at the bottom.
This TM teaches Thief. Run back up both sets of stairs and take the pipe to the platform north, then use the pipe once more to reach the northern-most platform.
Talk the Worker here if you wish to verse him. Now, take the pipe west to the platform there. Run around to the other side and take the next pipe north-west to the platform with the Youngster on it.
It's time for another battle! Now move back onto the pipe and purposely drop off. Talk to the Worker on the ground here to start yet another battle. Jump down the ledge to your south. Continue down until you're out of the grass. When you've gone as far south as you can, move east. You'll now be back in the main area. You've now battled everyone and collected everything! Oh wait, there are still a couple of things things left! Head back to the bald man next to the tree near the beginning of the area.
He'll hand you TM94 - Rock Smash as payment for defeating a couple of the trainers here. Now, if you see every Pokemon available to you in this area, you'll be able to receive a number of Great Ball s by talking to the blonde-haired woman north-west of Lass Daya. Until you've done that though, she'll refuse to hand them over Thanks to Dolier for this find.
The two most notable Pokemon to collect in this area are Magnemite, the only Pokemon thus far that Poison-type Pokemon are weak against. As Virbank City Gym is a Poison-type gym, it's highly recommended that you catch a Magnemite and train it up to at least Lv.
The other notable Pokemon is the first version exclusive! Pokemon here range from Lv. Once you've caught and trained all that you want to, go back to Virbank City. Once you've healed your Pokemon and bought any items that you think you may need have a number of Antidotes ready, it's a Poison-type gym after all , it's time to tackle the gym itself. Head to it and enter. Walk down the steps until and walk over to the door until you're stopped once again by Clyde.
He'll give you yet another Fresh Water and give you a small amount of information about the Gym.. Once you're ready, go through the doors. You'll find yourself in a music club! The two people at the south side of the room aren't trainers, but those that are on stage are. Move around the stools and tables and walk up the stairs onto the stage. You have to defeat the Roughneck drummer and Guitarist before you can face the Roxie, the Gym Leader and bassist.
It doesn't matter who you face first, but this guide will assume that you face the drummer first. Once the Guitarist has been defeated it's time to face Roxie herself. Go and heal and restock etc. With Magnemite in your party, this battle should be easier than the one against Cheren. Make sure that your party's average level is about 13 before challenging Roxie.
It's recommended that your Magnemite's a level or two higher. Don't start with Magnemite, but instead use it against Whirlipede when you face it. Use all your other Pokemon first to deal Koffing damage until it's defeated. Roxie will have a Super Potion that she'll use on Koffing when it's HP is low, so be prepared for that.
When Koffing's finally defeated, switch your Magnemite out as Roxie switches out Whirlipede. As Whirlipede only has Venoshock which can't damage Magnemite at all and Pursuit which is weak against Magnemite as its offensive moves, it can't do much damage at all. Now simply use SonicBoom or any other damaging move until Whirlipede faints and you've won! Easy, right?
As a reward for winning, Roxie will give you the Toxic Badge! She'll mention that Pokemon that you get in trades will obey you, up to Level 30 now. Furthermore, she'll also reward you with a TM, TM This teaches Venoshock. Once you're done talking to her, leave the gym and heal your Pokemon at the Pokemon Center. The man that was blocking the gate to the north-north-east of the Pokemon Center is now gone and you can enter! When you're ready, do so. You'll be in PokeStar Studios!
Walk through the gate leading north out of Virbank City there's nothing to collect this time and come out the other side. You'll come upon the man that was blocking the gate before and that was standing in the Gym when you battled Roxie. He's talking to another man, about you of all things.
He'll notice you and, after conversing, will drag you all around Pokestar Studios, forcing you to watch a movie and even create your own before finally allowing you to go off on your own once more. To create the movie, simply talk to the blonde-haired man next to the door at the back. Select whichever option you like and you'll then be taken into the studio. Here you will have a fake Pokemon battle.
Once it's over, whether you win or lose, you're free to explore. Acting out the scenes in particular ways will allow you to get different kinds of endings. Good Endings will perform better at the Box Office, Bad Endings won't and Strange Endings, which can be difficult to get, are the best of all, netting huge Box Office earnings. See the Brycen-Man for details on how to get particular endings. Feel free to play around with Pokestar Studios and film your own movies.
When you're ready, head back to Virbank City. Making sure all your Pokemon are healthy, head east from the Pokemon Center and follow the path around south.
Move up and see what the commotion is. When conversing, select the top option 'yes' when asked the question. Once the talk is done, Roxie, Hugh and you each take a single grunt to fight and the battle begins!
Once you quite easily I hope defeat the Grunt, he will barge past you and the others will quickly follow. It's now time to take these Plasma Grunts down! Back to Route 20 we head! Back track to where the Hiker is. Just to his west is Hugh, who's lost him. To avoid grass, simply jump down the ledges to your west so that you're back at the beginning of the route. Now head east over the bridge and you'll see the Team Plasma Grunt to your south.
Talk to her to begin the battle. After the battle the grunt will leave and Hugh will talk to you. It's time to head back to Virbank City once more.
Heal your Pokemon and head back to where you battled the Grunts. If you haven't already done so, don't forget to head back to the Virbank Complex and cut that tree down with your new HM. You'll find a Super Potion if you do. Now that you're back at the harbour you'll see Roxie and the captain of the boat talking.
Once they're done, follow the captain inside the building. Inside, Hugh's already buying a ticket. Answer his question with the top 'yes' option and you'll board the boat!
After a nice, cute little cut-scene you'll arrive in Castelia City! Hugh will wander off. Move to the south end of the dock that you're currently on. You'll notice an item sitting next to the bottom right lamppost. Pick it up to reveal that it's a Heart Scale! Move north and leave the current dock.
Don't forget that you can talk to the captain of the ship at any time and select the top option 'Yes' to sail back to Virbank City whenever you wish to. A man will immediately stop you and give you a Bicycle , as well as mention the Castelia Harlequin Hunt , which will be covered a little later on. How convenient! Hop on the bike and get exploring! If you feel a little daunted by the size, follow along to make sure that you collect and do everything.
Only actions that will get you items or help you in your journey will be listed, but feel free to explore the city and enjoy. First, go east down your current street. Heal yourself at the Pokemon Center if you need then head to the very right end of the street.
Enter the gate there. Talk to the girl just next to the doorway to receive the Quick Claw. Later on this gate will open up and you'll be able to head into Skyarrow Bridge and beyond, but that's only after beating the Elite Four.
Exit the gate and run left. Enter the street to the right of the Pokemon Center. Run down it and enter the first building on your right.
Go up to the top floor. In the south-west corner of the top floor is a Revive. Pick it up. To your right are three people gathered around a table. The people sitting at the bottom and the right of the table are both willing to battle.
If you speak to either of them and select the top option 'Yes' when asked a question, you will begin the battle. The information for each battle is below.
Although the Hiker is simply another trainer, his Pokemon does have Leftovers , so you need to be a little careful. He has is very own class and is included in the game as a tribute to him. For that reason alone you should battle him! DO IT. Morimoto has various items at his disposal in this battle, including Super Potion s and Oran Berry s. You can come back and battle these guys once a day, so feel free to. Once you're done, exit the building. Back on the street, head north and enter the next building on your left.
Talk to the Guitarist here to receive TM44 , which teaches Rest.
